CUPE Submission on Pensions

Manitoba Pension Review

Every five years the Pension Commission of Manitoba reviews existing pension legislation and regulations and provides Government with suggestions for changes.

CUPE has filed a submission opposing recent pension recommendations that we believe would be unfair to workers in Manitoba.

The review includes recommendations for Target Benefit and Shared-Risk pension plans in Manitoba. These pension plan models are not new in Canada, but would be new to Manitoba. Unlike Defined Benefit plans, retirement income is not guaranteed in these pension models.

CUPE strongly opposes the conversion of any pension plans from Defined Benefit pensions into Target Benefit or Shared-Risk plans.
