CUPE Manitoba mourns passing of Nello Altomare, Minister of Education & Early Childhood Learning

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Nello Altomare, Manitoba Minister of Education & Early Childhood Learning, and MLA for Transcona.

Brittany Aube, President of CUPE 3060 (child care) and CUPE Manitoba Brandon Area Rep., MLA Nello Altomare, and CUPE Manitoba President Gina McKay

Minister Altomare was a beloved educator and friend to so many Manitoba students, parents, child care workers, and school support staff. He was a strong advocate for the education and child care systems, and pioneered Manitoba’s Universal School Nutrition Program.

He cared deeply for his community.

In 2021 he braved the icy picket lines of CUPE 1630 (Rolling River School Division) showing his steadfast dedication to workers on the front line.

On behalf of CUPE members across Manitoba, we send our condolences to his family and friends, and we commit to continue his work to build a better education and child care system for all.
