CUPE Manitoba stands with Dynacare workers represented by MAHCP.

Dynacare, a multimillion-dollar for-profit company is refusing to pay front-line workers a fair wage. This is unacceptable. 

Dynacare’s inability to prioritize the livelihoods of their own staff in Manitoba once again shows the failings of private companies contracted to do what should be public work.

The City’s largest union is applauding Mayor Gillingham’s recent campaign commitment to ensure municipal contracts are awarded locally, rather than to US-based or global corporations.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Manitoba is calling on the provincial government to pass proposed amendments to The Residential Tenancies Act (Bill 13) and immediately implement updates to The Residential Rent Regulations.

Manitoba’s largest labour union says a recent decision by the Manitoba Legislative Assembly Speaker banning words that call out harmful behaviour is wrongheaded and harmful.“The problem with racism isn’t the word ‘racism’,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba. “The problem is racist comments and actions.”

CUPE members were shocked last week when Progressive Conservative MLAs used harmful and racist stereotypes to degrade the Premier’s character.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is warning against reckless calls from the Progressive Conservatives to force front-line health care workers back into unsafe environments, following the decision by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) to suspend in-home services at a North End housing building due to serious safety concerns.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – This week, CUPE Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation were granted leave by the Supreme Court of Canada to intervene in the Court of Appeal case concerning Bill 137: The Education Amendment Act, 2023.

In addition to concerns about the pre-emptive invocation of the notwithstanding clause to protect the Bill from being struck down by the courts, CUPE remains concerned that the legislation harms youth and sets a model for overriding workers’ Charter rights in the future.
