CUPE Manitoba Applauds Grassroots Victory on Rental Protections

As one of 50 signatories who recently called on the province to swiftly implement protections for renters, CUPE Manitoba applauds Tuesday’s announcement that provincial regulations are being amended in favour of working Manitobans and their families.

“Manitobans are facing a cost of living crisis and these regulation changes limiting rent increases are a crucial protection for working people in the province,” said CUPE Manitoba president Gina McKay.

“Our union is proud to have worked alongside the dozens of community organizations and committees who campaigned to ensure working people aren’t forced out of their homes by corporate. This is a victory for grassroots, community organizing and a demonstration of the power of solidarity.”

This is a decisive victory for tenants in Manitoba. CUPE Manitoba commends the provincial government for pushing back against an opposition working against the interests of working people and families and ensuring these crucial protections are enshrined in regulation.
