It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Nello Altomare, Manitoba Minister of Education & Early Childhood Learning, and MLA for Transcona.

CUPE Manitoba Recognizes National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, September 30th

September 30th is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. CUPE Manitoba is committed to support reconciliation and justice for all Indigenous Peoples. This important day is also known as Orange Shirt Day, and with thanks to the Manitoba NDP, is now legislated as a Provincial Statutory day in Manitoba.
Orange Shirt Day provides Manitobans with an opportunity to honour the memories of the Indigenous children whose lives were lost in the residential school system, and recognize the strength of the survivors and their families.

CUPE Manitoba is proud to recognize the week of September 29th – October 4th, 2024, as School Support Staff Recognition Week. This important week acknowledges the value of School Support Staff to our education system.

During this important week, we will be celebrating the important contributions of School Support Staff in keeping our schools safer and clean, getting children and youth to school safely and on time, keeping our schools running, shelves stocked with books, and helping our children and youth learn, grow, and succeed.

CUPE Manitoba looks forward to bringing CUPE's spirit of Frontline Pride to celebrations across Manitoba this month, from Flin Flon to Steinbach and many places in-between.

Our activities kicked off at the Union Centre in Winnipeg on May 24th with a flag raising ceremony in which CUPE Manitoba 2SLGBTQI+ Committee Co-Chair Bryce Byron (CUPE Local 2348) spoke alongside Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Deputy Premier and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara.

President McKay, CUPE, labour activists receive United Way Winnipeg Awards

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 the United Way Winnipeg and Winnipeg District Labour Council presented their annual community labour awards to individual labour activists and presented certificates of recognition and excellence to unions for their fundraising efforts.

The event was held at Winnipeg's Union Centre and honoured guests included Minister of Labour Malaya Marcelino, Minister of Advanced Education and Training Renée Cable, and several NDP MLAs as well as labour-friendly city councillors.
