December 6 Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women – Manitoba Events
December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women where we take the time to remember and honour the victims of the 1989 shooting at École Polytechnique de Montréal, where 14 women were targeted and killed by a lone gunman because of their gender. One of those women was Maryse Laganière, a CUPE member who worked at the school.
CUPE Manitoba marks the Transgender Day of Remembrance, Nov. 20
On November 20, workplaces and communities will take the time to observe Transgender Day of Remembrance and commemorate persons who have lost their lives because of anti-trans violence.
Started in 1998 to honour the murder of a young transgender woman in Massachusetts, this day is now marked by ceremonies in cities across Canada and around the world.
Health care workers hold info pickets at Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home Against Government Cuts

Health care support workers held coordinated noon-hour information pickets on July 18 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg and Middlechurch Home in West St. Paul Manitoba, to protest against the provincial governments cuts and changes to health care.
Raising Red Flags on the P3 School in Brandon
Brandon, MB – CUPE Local 737, representing school support workers at Brandon School Division will be hosting a public town hall meeting to raise red flags over the provincial government’s plan to build a new school in Brandon using a Public Private Partnership (P3) model.
“When the Premier announced the new school, he said that P3 schools were successful across the country” said Jamie Rose, President of CUPE 737.

Winnipeg – health care support staff at Concordia Hospital are holding a rally on Tuesday, April 11 at 11:30am in front of the Concordia Hospital grounds.
“We are very concerned that we are losing our Emergency Room and other important departments that serve the community,” says Ric McAlpine, President of CUPE Local 1973 representing health care support staff at Concordia Hospital.

As you have undoubtedly heard, the WRHA has announced a major overhaul of the health care system in Winnipeg.
The Pallister Conservative Government is no friend to public health care in Manitoba, and we must remain vigilant and united to counter these attacks.
This is only the first major attack on public health care in Manitoba, and it won’t be the last.
Kildonan Personal Care Centre Workers to Hold Info Pickets March 23
WINNIPEG – Kildonan Personal Care Centre workers – the women and men who look after elders with compassion and care every day – will be holding an information picket on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
Contract talks between Local 4860 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees and Revera, the company that runs Kildonan PCC, broke down in late January over remaining bargaining items.
