CUPE, OEM, UFCW, MAHCP prepare for court dates now set by Court of Queens Bench
WINNIPEG – The legal challenge to the Pallister government’s wage freeze legislation (Bill 28: The Public Service Sustainability Act) has taken a significant step forward with the setting of court dates with the Court of Queen’s Bench.
WINNIPEG – The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is concerned about ongoing upheaval in Manitoba’s health care system. Today’s announcement of more job cuts and re-organization of health services shows the provincial government’s lack of commitment to strengthening public health care.
“CUPE has been tracking the changes to the health care system closely, and we’ve already reached out to members about the changes announced today,” said Debbie Boissonneault, President of CUPE Local 204, Manitoba’s Health Care Union.

CUPE members and leadership rallied yesterday to support the Public Service Alliance of Canada's call to repeal Bill 29, the legislations requiring representation votes in the Healthcare Sector.
CUPE has long shared the PSAC's position that these votes throw our healthcare system into even greater levels of chaos than the Conservative government has already created, and puts politics ahead of patient care.
The members of CUPE Local 4860,working at the Revera owned Kildonan Personal Care Home voted unanimously to reject the employer’s final offer.
The Employer had given CUPE members an offer for wages that was significantly below what has been agreed to in their other unionized facilities, and CUPE members have decided to stand up and demand to be treated fairly.
CUPE Manitoba was out supporting Cirque du So Gay.

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women where we take the time to remember and honour the victims of the 1989 shooting at École Polytechnique de Montréal, where 14 women were targeted and killed by a lone gunman because of their gender.
