CUPE Manitoba looks forward to bringing CUPE’s spirit of Frontline Pride to celebrations across Manitoba this month, from Flin Flon to Steinbach and many places in-between.
Our activities kicked off at the Union Centre in Winnipeg on May 24th with a flag raising ceremony in which CUPE Manitoba 2SLGBTQI+ Committee Co-Chair Bryce Byron (CUPE Local 2348) spoke alongside Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Deputy Premier and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara. Also present was Minister of Labour and Immigration Malaya Marcelino among other members of the NDP government cabinet and caucus.
On Friday May 31st, CUPE Manitoba hosted a special CUPE Pride Event at Club 200 in Winnipeg, featuring drag performances by CUPE activists, a panel discussion, and a screening of the movie Pride (2014), based on the true story of the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign in the 80s.
On Saturday, June 1st, we joined the large and spirited Trans March that met at the Legislative grounds.
This year’s Winnipeg Pride March on Sunday June 2nd was the largest in history. CUPE Manitoba was proud to be there, as always, exhibiting frontline pride and handing out thousands of CUPE “Solidarity in Pride” hand fans.
We look forward to seeing you in Brandon, Portage La Prairie, Flin Flon, Steinbach, and beyond!
