CUPE Manitoba Welcomes Safer Workplaces as a Result of Measures in Bill 29

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Manitoba, representing 37,000 public sector workers across the province, welcomes the introduction of Bill 29: The Workplace Safety and Health Amendment Act. This bill helps ensure safer workplaces for all Manitoba workers.

The definition of psychological health and safety has been a longheld priority of CUPE locals, who have fought to get it into our Collective Agreements and workplace policies for over a decade.

As we prepare for our 61st Annual Convention in Brandon, MB - Treaty 2, the Local Resolution deadline of April 13th is quickly approaching. As a democratic, member-driven union, Convention resolutions help set the mandate for CUPE Manitoba.

To help build connection and support in writing resolutions, CUPE Manitoba and CUPE Education will be offering a Tips for Writing & Speaking to Resolutions online workshop for CUPE members.

February is officially recognized as Black History Month, but I believe that celebrating Black history should be a year-round endeavor. It goes beyond just learning about prominent figures like Martin Luther King Jr.

In our diverse world, there are countless opportunities to honour the rich history, culture, food, and dance associated with Black heritage.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – The union representing 19,000 health care support workers in Manitoba is welcoming the government’s move to change leadership at Shared Health and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

“For too long the health authorities have been replacing dedicated front-line health workers with private agency staff, and we are pleased to see the government’s efforts to ensure a change in direction,” said Shannon McAteer, Health Care Coordinator for the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Prairie Human Rights drag show raises money for Saskatoon warm-up centre

Attendees at the CUPE Prairie Human Rights Conference drag performance raised almost $500 for the Saskatoon Indian and Métis Friendship Centre (SIMFC) warm-up shelter.

On January 21, conference participants had the option of attending a drag performance featuring performers from across the prairies. The optional social evening was part of CUPE’s commitment to offer dry and sober events while highlighting local artists.

Nominations are open for CUPE Manitoba's Jack Rodie Award!

The Jack Rodie Award is presented to a CUPE member who has displayed a long-standing commitment to the union movement.
Criteria:
- The nominee must be a CUPE member from a Local affiliated to CUPE Manitoba
- The nomination must come from an affiliated Local or member of an affiliated Local of CUPE Manitoba
- Nominees should be members who have displayed a long-term commitment to union activism, and have fostered a positive image amongst our membership
