Building Strong Communities Through Solidarity and Giving

CUPE Manitoba is proud to endorse the 2025 United Way Campaign in Manitoba! Throughout November and December, we’ll be running our “CUPE Stronger Together” Labour Campaign, and we invite all CUPE Locals across Manitoba to join us in supporting our communities.

As unionists, we recognize the long-standing partnership between the labour movement and United Way as a vital way to strengthen the communities where our members live and work. Together, we continue to build strong, resilient communities through solidarity, collective action, collective impact, and collective giving.

Why This Campaign Matters

CUPE Manitoba understands the challenges faced by working people, families, and communities especially during times of financial strain and while living through an affordability crisis. Investing in accessible, public social services is essential to creating thriving, equitable communities.

Over 125 of United Way’s community partner agencies play a key role in meeting these needs, and their work is made possible through local campaigns and the contributions of union members and workplaces. Many of the workplaces are also represented by CUPE, and include over 27% unionized workplaces.

How CUPE Locals Can Get Involved

CUPE Manitoba encourages all Locals to take part in the 2025 United Way Campaign in one or more of the following ways:

  • Join your workplace’s United Way Campaign and bring a voice of CUPE solidarity. Invite CUPE Manitoba to help launch a “CUPE Stronger Together” initiative to boost engagement!
  • Make a Local contribution to the United Way Labour Campaign to highlight your Local’s independent support, separate from the employer campaign.
  • Donate individually through payroll deductions or one-time contributions.
  • Connect with the United Way Labour Director to explore ways members can participate and strengthen the campaign in your workplace.
  • Request a Campaign Tool Kit for your Local to help launch a Stronger Together Campaign. Kits can be requested to Labour Director, Stephanie Swain, and picked up at the CUPE office at Union Centre.

This year, CUPE Manitoba has made Union Organizational Gifts to United Way Winnipeg in the amount of $10,000, and to United Way Brandon in the amount of $1,500, emphasizing our commitment to community programming across Manitoba. We are also running a workplace campaign at the CUPE Manitoba office, alongside CUPE Regional staff campaigns.

If your Local would like CUPE Manitoba to help kick off your workplace campaign, please reach out! We’re happy to collaborate on ways to build member engagement and community impact.

Let’s come together to help strengthen our communities. United Way is Canada’s only labour endorsed charity, and is an organization in Manitoba that puts 100% of funds raised directly into community funding. United Way & Labour have been partners in building community support since the Winnipeg General Strike.

Thank you – Merci – Miigwetch.
