A Tribute to Evelyne Bemben – CUPE Local 949

President Gina McKay recently met with CUPE Local 949 following a discussion with Local 949 President, Donna Wolfram, on the passing of long time 949 member, Evelyne Bemben.

Sister Evelyne Bemben worked with the Seven Oaks School Division for 43 years, and she was the organizing lead that led to the ratification vote for Local 949, on March 2, 1965.

On Tuesday, February 20, CUPE Manitoba President Gina McKay presented to Minister of Finance Adrien Sala and community stakeholders at the Southdale Community Centre in Winnipeg, as part of the provincial government's pre-budget community consultation process.

CUPE Manitoba joins CUPE National in strongly condemning the recent measures introduced by Premier Smith of Alberta regarding gender policies for children and youth.

CUPE Manitoba Executive Board representative for 2SLGBTQIA+ members Daniel Richards says, “This is a direct attack on the 2SLGBTQIA+ and trans and gender-diverse community rooted in hate, bigotry, division, and distraction.
