WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Manitoba’s largest labour union says while the 2026 Manitoba budget hit the target, it’s still far from a bullseye.

A glaring omission from the budget is the continued refusal to legislate staffing levels for health care support workers in personal care homes.

“One nurse to fifty patients is unacceptable, but nurses aren’t working alone; health care aides and dietary aides are doing hands-on patient care every single day and are consistently working short-staffed,” said Margaret Schroeder, President of CUPE 204.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 - A new coalition of unions representing tens of thousands of frontline workers has formally united under the banner Workers for Downtown Public Safety. WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – CUPE 3473 invites media and the community members to join an information picket at the Louis Riel School Division Administration Building following a recent strike vote.

CUPE members will be present to make their voices heard and to build pressure for a fair deal ahead of conciliation efforts beginning next week.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Winnipeg’s largest union says that Winnipeg City Council needs to go back to the drawing board on the Request for Proposals (RFP) for garbage and recycling services.

“The garbage contract stinks,” said Gord Delbridge, President of CUPE 500. “From start to finish, the process, the bids, and the contractor selected all need to be trashed.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Education Assistants working for the River East Transcona School Division have voted to join CUPE following a successful card-signing campaign and a labour board issued vote. The final issuing on the certificate remains before the board. These 600 new members are joining CUPE’s strong and growing education sector.
