HEALTH CARE SUPPORT WORKERS IN SHARED HEALTH, WRHA, AND SOUTHERN HEALTH-SANTÉ-SUD AUTHORIZE STRIKE ACTION –
WINNIPEG, TREATY 1

Health care support workers in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (community and facility support), Shared Health (community and facility support) and Southern Health Santé-Sud (community support) have rejected a proposed tentative agreement and have authorized strike action.

CUPE's 54th Annual Union Education Manitoba Summer School was held May 27 - 31 in Russell, Manitoba, Treaty 2 Territory. This was the first Summer School since 2019 and and included 60 delegates and facilitators. By all accounts, it was a great success and one of the best Summer Schools ever held in Manitoba.

CUPE Manitoba looks forward to bringing CUPE's spirit of Frontline Pride to celebrations across Manitoba this month, from Flin Flon to Steinbach and many places in-between.

Our activities kicked off at the Union Centre in Winnipeg on May 24th with a flag raising ceremony in which CUPE Manitoba 2SLGBTQI+ Committee Co-Chair Bryce Byron (CUPE Local 2348) spoke alongside Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Deputy Premier and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara.

President McKay, CUPE, labour activists receive United Way Winnipeg Awards

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 the United Way Winnipeg and Winnipeg District Labour Council presented their annual community labour awards to individual labour activists and presented certificates of recognition and excellence to unions for their fundraising efforts.

The event was held at Winnipeg's Union Centre and honoured guests included Minister of Labour Malaya Marcelino, Minister of Advanced Education and Training Renée Cable, and several NDP MLAs as well as labour-friendly city councillors.

The week of the Early Childhood Educator is an important week to recognize and thank all Early Childhood Educators in Manitoba who work tirelessly to support our communities' children & families.

“This week serves as an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the profound impact that early childhood educators have in supporting the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of children, from the youngest infants all the way through school age and beyond” (Mb Education & Early Childhood Learning, 2024)

April 28 is the National Workers' Day of Mourning for workers injured or killed on the job.

The Workers’ Day of Mourning was created by CUPE members more than 40 years ago to remember those who lost their lives on the job and to inspire workers to fight to prevent further tragedies.
