CUPE Manitoba: Education Funding Falls Short as School Divisions Face Growing Deficits

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – CUPE Manitoba is disappointed in Manitoba government’s latest education funding announcement. The funding falls short of what Manitoba schools need and leaves many school divisions facing significant financial deficits as they head into a critical bargaining year.

“CUPE Manitoba appreciates the government’s commitment to public education, but this announcement fails to meet the moment,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Manitoba’s largest labour union says the Wab Kinew government has nothing to learn from PC leader Obby Kahn on how to run healthcare in Manitoba.

“Obby Kahn was the face of a party that cut and privatized healthcare” says Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Manitoba’s largest labour Union says Manitoba Hydro needs to take advantage of the Manitoba NDP’s newest regulatory changes that allow for Manitoba Hydro to hire Institutional Safety Officers (ISOs).

“Wab Kinew’s NDP has made the changes needed to help keep Manitoba Hydro employees safe at work” says Michelle Bergen, President of CUPE 998.

2026 CUPE Winter School – Registration is Live!

CUPE Manitoba will be holding the 28th Annual Winter School, February 26th - March 1st, 2026 in Gimli Manitoba. This is an excellent opportunity for CUPE members to build skills in labour relations, advocating for workers, and community action.

The courses for the 2026 Winter School include:

The Steward Learning Series: Conflict resolution, what stewards need to know about arbitration, duty to accommodate, and representing members in front of management

Next Level Communications: Speaking Up, Speaking Out: Leadership essentials, representing members in front of management, and women speaking out (adapted for all audiences)

Member Engagement: Solidarity School: Good meetings, anti-racist CUPE, essentials for inclusive unions, and strategic planning for Locals

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Utility Operators with the City of Winkler have voted to join CUPE following a successful card-signing campaign under Manitoba Government’s card check legislation.

CUPE Manitoba to Launch Children’s Activity Book in Brandon, Treaty 2

BRANDON, TREATY 2 – CUPE Manitoba invites media and the community to participate in the Brandon area launch of CUPE Manitoba’s “We Work for Manitoba!” children’s activity book on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the CUPE Brandon Area Office located at 1911 Park Avenue.CUPE members will also be handing out the new activity book during this year’s Santa Claus Parade as part of CUPE Manitoba’s Dasher sponsorship and Holiday Bus parade entry.
