CUPE Manitoba Applauds New Child Care Wages Funding

Today the governments of Manitoba and Canada announced a new wage grid for early childhood educators across the province–a move CUPE Manitoba says will help address recruitment and retention challenges in child care centres.

“We are pleased to see both levels of government stepping up to provide support to some of Manitoba’s most important workers–those who care for our children,” says Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba representing child care workers in 10 child care centres across Manitoba.

CUPE Manitoba recognizes and celebrates the Week of the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) in Manitoba.

The week of the ECE is an important week to recognize and thank all Early Childhood Educators in Manitoba who work tirelessly to support our communities' children, youth and families.

To mark this important week, CUPE Manitoba shares a reminder to all CUPE Locals in Manitoba to extend a thank you to all Early Childhood Educators, Providers, and Child Care staff who are on the frontlines serving our communities and that Child Care is essential, and not just in times of crisis.

Earth Day Conversations for CUPE Locals in Manitoba

For April 22, Earth Day, President McKay spoke with CUPE Local 500 member, Cameron Patrick, who is Manitoba’s representative on CUPE National’s Environment Committee.

Brother Cameron shared that “CUPE has made a commitment to fight for the environment, for the good of the planet, individuals, and communities. There are many things we can do as individuals and union members to help out in this fight, including recycling and composting in the workplace.

Broken payroll takes its toll on Manitoba personal care home workers

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – Frontline health care support workers in Extendicare personal care homes will be picketing outside Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home today, April 9, calling out the private operator’s broken payroll system that has resulted in dozens of grievances.

“Care workers shouldn’t have to be worried every two weeks if they are being paid correctly,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba.
