CUPE Manitoba delivers $50,000 in aid for wildfire relief

Manitoba’s wildfires have impacted the lives of thousands across the province. The CUPE National Executive Board approved $50,000 to help relief efforts for Manitoba families affected by the forest fires and subsequent relocations.
While the province of Manitoba has lifted the provincial state of emergency, many Manitobans continue to rely on support from emergency relief organizations.

With more than 17,000 Manitobans forced to evacuate their homes and communities due to unprecedented wildfires, CUPE Manitoba is appealing to CUPE Locals to contribute to the First Nations and Métis relief efforts, and the Red Cross Manitoba Wildfires Relief Fund.

CUPE 998 and Manitoba Hydro negotiations reach stalemate – strike vote scheduled

Today CUPE 998 representing approximately 870 workers at Manitoba Hydro has scheduled a strike vote with members for Friday, May 30, 2025. The strike vote follows months of bargaining where Manitoba Hydro has failed to present an offer consistent with what it has reached with other bargaining units within Manitoba Hydro.

“We know Manitoba Hydro has settled with other workers within Hydro with fair collective agreements,” said Michelle Bergen, President of CUPE 998.

Today the governments of Manitoba and Canada announced a new wage grid for early childhood educators across the province–a move CUPE Manitoba says will help address recruitment and retention challenges in child care centres.

“We are pleased to see both levels of government stepping up to provide support to some of Manitoba’s most important workers–those who care for our children,” says Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba representing child care workers in 10 child care centres across Manitoba.

It is with deep sadness that CUPE Manitoba learns of the sudden passing of Jason Schreyer, Winnipeg City Councillor for Elmwood-East Kildonan.
