September 30th is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. CUPE Manitoba is committed to support reconciliation and justice for all Indigenous Peoples. This important day is also known as Orange Shirt Day, and with thanks to the Manitoba NDP, is now legislated as a Provincial Statutory day in Manitoba.
Orange Shirt Day provides Manitobans with an opportunity to honour the memories of the Indigenous children whose lives were lost in the residential school system, and recognize the strength of the survivors and their families.

CUPE issues report on staffing crisis in Manitoba

Nearly 50% of health care support workers have been, or plan to, look for a new job, according to a survey conducted from over 5,000 support workers in the WRHA, Shared Health, Southern Health-Santé Sud, and the Northern Regional Health Authority.
“Recruitment and retention of health care support workers should be a priority for government and health care employers,” said Shannon McAteer, CUPE Health Care Coordinator.

CUPE Manitoba is proud to recognize the week of September 29th – October 4th, 2024, as School Support Staff Recognition Week. This important week acknowledges the value of School Support Staff to our education system.

During this important week, we will be celebrating the important contributions of School Support Staff in keeping our schools safer and clean, getting children and youth to school safely and on time, keeping our schools running, shelves stocked with books, and helping our children and youth learn, grow, and succeed.

Health care support workers have made it clear that if government wants to fix the staffing crisis in health care, they need to offer better wages and supports that don’t leave health care support workers behind.
