CUPE Health Care Bargaining Update — July 24, 2024

Your CUPE bargaining team is pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement for Health Care Support Workers in Community Support and Facility Support in Shared Health (CUPE 204), WRHA (CUPE 204 & CUPE 500), Southern Health-Santé Sud (CUPE 4270), and Northern Regional Health Authority (CUPE 8600).
This tentative agreement comes after only four months of negotiations between your CUPE team and the Provincial Health Labour Relations Services (the Employers).

2024 CUPE Summer School a Great Success

CUPE's 54th Annual Union Education Manitoba Summer School was held May 27 - 31 in Russell, Manitoba, Treaty 2 Territory. This was the first Summer School since 2019 and and included 60 delegates and facilitators. By all accounts, it was a great success and one of the best Summer Schools ever held in Manitoba.

CUPE Manitoba looks forward to bringing CUPE's spirit of Frontline Pride to celebrations across Manitoba this month, from Flin Flon to Steinbach and many places in-between.

Our activities kicked off at the Union Centre in Winnipeg on May 24th with a flag raising ceremony in which CUPE Manitoba 2SLGBTQI+ Committee Co-Chair Bryce Byron (CUPE Local 2348) spoke alongside Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Deputy Premier and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara.

President McKay, CUPE, labour activists receive United Way Winnipeg Awards

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 the United Way Winnipeg and Winnipeg District Labour Council presented their annual community labour awards to individual labour activists and presented certificates of recognition and excellence to unions for their fundraising efforts.

The event was held at Winnipeg's Union Centre and honoured guests included Minister of Labour Malaya Marcelino, Minister of Advanced Education and Training Renée Cable, and several NDP MLAs as well as labour-friendly city councillors.

April 28 is the National Workers' Day of Mourning for workers injured or killed on the job.

The Workers’ Day of Mourning was created by CUPE members more than 40 years ago to remember those who lost their lives on the job and to inspire workers to fight to prevent further tragedies.

Manitoba budget step in the right direction to improve public services – CUPE Manitoba

Winnipeg, Treaty 1 – Manitoba’s largest union is applauding the NDP government’s first budget, which should help address chronic understaffing in healthcare, childcare, municipal services, and education.
“Hiring 600 health care aides will help fill the staffing holes created by the previous government”, said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba. “We hear every day from health care support staff across Manitoba who are calling for backup, and now the help is coming”.
