CUPE Manitoba looks forward to bringing CUPE's spirit of Frontline Pride to celebrations across Manitoba this month, from Flin Flon to Steinbach and many places in-between.
Our activities kicked off at the Union Centre in Winnipeg on May 24th with a flag raising ceremony in which CUPE Manitoba 2SLGBTQI+ Committee Co-Chair Bryce Byron (CUPE Local 2348) spoke alongside Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Deputy Premier and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara.
On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 the United Way Winnipeg and Winnipeg District Labour Council presented their annual community labour awards to individual labour activists and presented certificates of recognition and excellence to unions for their fundraising efforts.
The event was held at Winnipeg's Union Centre and honoured guests included Minister of Labour Malaya Marcelino, Minister of Advanced Education and Training Renée Cable, and several NDP MLAs as well as labour-friendly city councillors.

Dauphin Manitoba, Treaty 2 – CUPE activists from across Manitoba gathered from April 29 – 3, 2024 in Dauphin, Treaty 2 Territory, for the 60th annual convention of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Manitoba.
April 29 through May 3, 2024, is the 33rd annual Week of the Early Childhood Educator in Manitoba.
The week of the Early Childhood Educator is an important week to recognize and thank all Early Childhood Educators in Manitoba who work tirelessly to support our communities' children & families.
“This week serves as an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the profound impact that early childhood educators have in supporting the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of children, from the youngest infants all the way through school age and beyond” (Mb Education & Early Childhood Learning, 2024)

April 28 is the National Workers' Day of Mourning for workers injured or killed on the job.
The Workers’ Day of Mourning was created by CUPE members more than 40 years ago to remember those who lost their lives on the job and to inspire workers to fight to prevent further tragedies.
Winnipeg, Treaty 1 – Manitoba’s largest union is applauding the NDP government’s first budget, which should help address chronic understaffing in healthcare, childcare, municipal services, and education.
“Hiring 600 health care aides will help fill the staffing holes created by the previous government”, said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba. “We hear every day from health care support staff across Manitoba who are calling for backup, and now the help is coming”.
Health care workers at Ten Ten Sinclair have voted 97% to accept a new deal after four years without a new contract.
“Front-line health care support workers at Ten Ten Sinclair stood up and demanded fair wage increases and won,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba. “After over two weeks on strike, these workers have achieved significant gains, and are heading back to work to care for the people they love”.
President Gina McKay recently met with CUPE Local 949 following a discussion with Local 949 President, Donna Wolfram, on the passing of long time 949 member, Evelyne Bemben.
Sister Evelyne Bemben worked with the Seven Oaks School Division for 43 years, and she was the organizing lead that led to the ratification vote for Local 949, on March 2, 1965.
WINNIPEG, Treaty 1 – The largest health care strike in Manitoba in over a decade began on Wednesday, March 6 at 12:00 am, with 160 health care support workers at Ten Ten Sinclair Inc. officially on strike.
“After all they’ve been through, these health care workers are literally being left out in the cold”, said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba.
