As one of 50 signatories who recently called on the province to swiftly implement protections for renters, CUPE Manitoba applauds Tuesday's announcement that provincial regulations are being amended in favour of working Manitobans and their families. 

"Manitobans are facing a cost of living crisis and these regulation changes limiting rent increases are a crucial protection for working people in the province," said CUPE Manitoba president Gina McKay.

This week, CUPE Manitoba is celebrating the over 19,000 CUPE members who work as Health Care Support Workers across Manitoba in Locals 204, 8600, 4270, 500, 2719, 1475, 2170, 4860, 4281, 2421, 3753, 5559, 2136, 2562, 2348 and 4376.

CUPE Manitoba stands with Dynacare workers represented by MAHCP.

Dynacare, a multimillion-dollar for-profit company is refusing to pay front-line workers a fair wage. This is unacceptable. 

Dynacare’s inability to prioritize the livelihoods of their own staff in Manitoba once again shows the failings of private companies contracted to do what should be public work.

The City’s largest union is applauding Mayor Gillingham’s recent campaign commitment to ensure municipal contracts are awarded locally, rather than to US-based or global corporations.

“Our union has been running a major campaign across social media and streaming platforms raising awareness about the impact of awarding major contracts to companies that don’t contribute to our local economy,” says Patrick Troughton, acting President of CUPE Local 500.

WINNIPEG, TREATY 1 – On a day that should have been a day of celebration for the workers ofShaftesbury Park Retirement Residence (SPRR), many were in tears after receiving positiondeletion notices.

Late last month, CUPE Local 1063 - representing workers at the Workers' Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB), participated in the Canadian Compensation Employees' Union Conference.

The event occurs every two years and brings together a majority of Union Locals that represent members across Canada that work within their provincial WCB jurisdictions.

Manitoba’s largest labour union says a recent decision by the Manitoba Legislative Assembly Speaker banning words that call out harmful behaviour is wrongheaded and harmful.“The problem with racism isn’t the word ‘racism’,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba. “The problem is racist comments and actions.”

CUPE members were shocked last week when Progressive Conservative MLAs used harmful and racist stereotypes to degrade the Premier’s character.
