The CUPE Bargaining Council and the Provincial Health Labour Relations Services (PHLRS) met on May 11, 19, and June 2, 2021. The next dates we have set to meet with the PHLRS are June 9, 16 and 23, 2021. We have proposed dates to meet for July and August.

CUPE knows that health care workers have been waiting too long for a new contract.
WINNIPEG –The union representing workers at the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council (MIIC) says “the employer’s response to their latest offer is evidence that they are unwilling to bargain fairly, and prefer to put vital refugee services at risk,” said Lee McLeod, Manitoba Regional Director of CUPE.
Prior to the recent MIIC decision to lock out its workers, CUPE Local 2348 continued to negotiate the specific issues of concern to the employer and made counteroffers that addressed those concerns, only to be told “no”.
MANITOBA – The Union that represents home care workers in the WRHA, Southern Health-Santé Sud, and Northern Regional Health Authority, sent a letter today to Cameron Friesen, Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, asking that home care workers immediately be provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance to the April 4th directive from Shared Health, and that fully paid sick leave be extended to home care workers for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Child care workers support the closing of centres as part of health officials’ call for social distancing. However, Manitoba’s non-profit child care workers are deeply concerned that the closures of child care centres, and shift to private home-based day care will leave them without employment in the future.
“Government support to child care in Manitoba during COVID-19 is important, but the government’s
approach could lead to undermining non-profit child care centres in the future,” said Abe Araya, President of CUPE Manitoba.
WINNIPEG – The 2020 Manitoba budget does little to ensure the public health funding that will be
needed to properly contain the coronavirus now, and in the future – says CUPE Manitoba, the
province’s largest union.
“Public Health should be getting a huge cash infusion to staff up for public health task forces,
immunization clinics, and ensuring enforcement of quarantine: instead this government is cutting
public health during a time of its most dire need,” says Abe Araya, President of CUPE Manitoba.
