On this day, and every day, we continue to confront racism however it shows itself, including racial profiling and criminalization, lack of employment and education opportunities, precarious work, unequal access to public services, environmental racism and lack of basic human rights for migrant workers.

PRESS RELEASE: CUPE calls on government to postpone The Health System Governance and Accountability Act

WINNIPEG – CUPE 204 President Debbie Boissonneault called on the Manitoba Government to postpone newly tabled legislation that would cause the further restructuring of health care, citing the current restructuring and bargaining delays as the reason to wait.

“Three years ago, the government announced they were going to shake up health care and see what happened,” said Debbie Boissonneault, “The government didn’t even wait until the end of the first wave of changes to announce another round of upheaval.

Across the country and in Manitoba, CUPE members will be participating in community events to honour the accomplishments of women and those who identify as women, to reaffirm our commitment to gender equality. This day also marks a call to action to end gender based violence in our community and in the workplace.

CUPE fears the government is considering radical changes that have the potential to throw the education system into chaos, contemplating simultaneously eliminating elected school trustees, merging or eliminating school divisions and considering changes to the funding model for education in Manitoba.
